Gold Trail recognizes that it sits within the traditional territory of the Nlaka'pamux, St'át'imc, and Secwepemc people. First Nations culture, tradition, history, and heritage are taught and celebrated at all District schools. There are classes in First Nations languages and First Nations English 12—a Ministry of Education approved course that focuses on First Nations texts—is offered as an alternative to English 12. Elders and others from First Nations communities regularly come to schools to address students on a wide variety of topics, from traditional food and herbs to drum-making, carving, and hoop-dancing. Students regularly visit places of historical, traditional, and spiritual importance to First Nations people, and learn more about their culture by this means.
Each school in the District has a relatively small student population, which allows school staff to know every student and understand his or her strengths, passions, and challenges to create a learning experience that is reflective of his or her individual needs. Gold Trail is proud of the work that is occurring in the District to support an increasingly personalized learning experience for each student.
