School District #74 (Gold Trail) is situated at the
gateway to the Cariboo, the recreational adventure paradise
of British Columbia. The region offers a mild climate,
a safe and peaceful lifestyle, and a multitude of world
class recreational activities. Five historic Gold Rush
Trail towns lie within the district boundaries:
Ashcroft, Cache Creek, Clinton, Lillooet and Lytton.
Nestled on the banks of the Thompson River,
ASHCROFT
offers a relaxed lifestyle. A general hospital,
medical and dental centres, and a small airport serve the
town. Community recreational facilities include soccer
and baseball fields, pool, skating/hockey rink and curling
rink. The early summer Ashcroft Rodeo and Parade
brings cowboys and parade entries from all over western
North America.
CACHE CREEK
lies five minutes from Ashcroft, at the Junction of Highway
97 and the Trans Canada Highway. The downtown core of
Cache Creek has been revitalized on a "Back to Fifties"
theme including streets lined with flowers, trees and neon
signs. The event of early summer is "Graffiti Days"
when everyone drives and displays their vintage cars and the
Nl'ak'apxm Eagle Motorplex features Old Time Drag races.
The Semlin Valley Gold Course, the Cache Creek Pool and the
Cache Creek Community Hall provide recreational facilities.
CLINTON,
midway between Vancouver and Prince George, on Highway 97
North, is a small, friendly ranching community that offers a
life of quiet living in a pristine natural environment.
The famed Clinton Rodeo and Ball is the social event of the
spring.

LILLOOET is renown amongst
rock hounds in search of Jade and other semi-precious
stones. A general hospital, medical and dental centres
and a small airport serve the community. Lillooet is
only an hour and half drive from the Whistler ski hills and
boasts the most unusual golf course in British Columbia.
An enterprising local sheep farmer has converted his scenic
farm pastures into a 9-hole gold course, upon which his herd
still grazes. The Lillooet Recreational centre
includes a pool, skating/hockey rink, gymnasium and weight
room as well as squash and raquetball courts. A
curling rink, and basefall field provide additional
recreational activities.
The "hot spot" of Canada,
LYTTON, is located where the crystal clear Thompson
River meets the Fraser River. The community,
conveniently situated just three hours from Vancouver and on
the edge of the wilderness experience, boasts world-class
eco-tourism. Hiking in the pristine wilderness of the
Stein Valley and white water rafting are the recreational
highlights of this community.
