Youth Train in Trades

Youth Train in Trades is a program designed for high school students that offers courses for credit towards both high school graduation and completion of an apprenticeship or industry training program. This is called a dual credit program.

Financial Considerations (program costs are located in number 3 under Application Documents and are subject to change):

The district:

  1. pays the tuition;
  2. provides transportation assistance to offset the cost of travelling between home and the student's accommodation while attending the post-secondary institute - see Operational Procedure 5.300 Student Transportation;
  3. provides boarding assistance to offset the cost of rental accommodations while attending the post-secondary institute - see Operational Procedure 5.350 Boarding Assistance.

The student:

  1. is responsible for the payment of:
    • student and lab fees
    • books
    • personal protective equipment
    • tools
    • accuplacer test fee
  2. is responsible to arrange and pay for housing while attending the post-secondary institute.

Financial Assistance:

If a student requires financial assistance, their caregiver may apply for financial support by completing and submitting the application form in Operational Procedure 4.900 - Hardship.

Application Process:

To apply to the Youth Train in Trades program at Thompson Rivers University or Nicola Valley Institute of Technology:

  1. Contact your school's Personal Education Planner (PEP teacher) for information and support on the application process.
  2. Complete the registration documents located to the right.
  3. Write an accuplacer test for admission to the post-secondary institute.

Contact Information:

The student's PEP teacher is the best contact. Contact your school office to be directed to the PEP teacher.
